Friends of Camp Silverado (FOCS) are partnered with the USFS Amador District Office of the Eldorado National Forest on a project aimed towards making Camp Silverado a Developed Recreational Site under a Non-Funded Cost Share Agreement.  The USFS has relied on FOCS to target seasonal maintenance and repair to the Camp's existing buildings and infrastructure while staying ahead of hazard tree removal and reduction of forest floor fuels since 2012.

Were you a Boy Scout that spent time in Camp Silverado between 1952 and 2003?

Friends of Camp Silverado was founded in 2012 in an attempt to save our Camp for the BSA. Sadly, we failed at this first attempt due to conflicting goals of the USFS, but we remain engaged with them to this day to guide them and perhaps steer them towards returning the use of Camp back into a center of outdoor learning as we remembered as Scouts.  With your help and if successful this is how we can see scouts in Camp again.

Our Promise

To pass on the spirit of Camp Silverado.

To share your BSA Legacy of Camp being a place of Wilderness Education with your grandchildren.

Our Ask

Act with us NOW.

Help preserve our heritage in Camp or it could be lost forever.

Friends of Camp Silverado Vision Statement

Anchored in an unwavering dedication to preserving and enhancing the Camp Silverado legacy, our vision embraces a future where this untarnished high Sierra haven takes center stage as a hub for experiential outdoor education. Our goal is to safeguard the pristine natural surroundings and rekindle a presence at Silver Lake that fosters outdoor learning and exploration.

Friends of Camp Silverado Mission Statement

Our mission of the Friends of Camp Silverado is resolute in its dedication to preserving, reconstructing, and revitalizing the infrastructure of the Camp Silverado facility. With a legacy spanning over six decades of committed engagement by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), our objective is to uphold the nature of this iconic high Sierra destination as an center for wilderness education. By maintaining these facilities and fostering collaborative group member partnerships with like-minded groups that share our vision, while upholding the legacy of the BSA through an environmental stewardship within the encompassing forest, FOCS remains resolutely committed to providing forthcoming generations from all walks of life with an exceptional high Sierra platform for experiential learning and personal growth.

Dear Esteemed Members of Friends of Camp Silverado (FOCS),

Greetings. Your unwavering commitment to the Camp Silverado restoration project is acknowledged and appreciated. Since its inception in 2011, your dedication has been instrumental in safeguarding this distinctive high Sierra site as a center for experiential education. This is what we had all through our BSA years and is the model in which we will return Scouts to our beloved Camp. Together partnered with other Organizations that need a high Sierra location which allows them to support their programs while FOCS worries about the Facility and its' ability to support their needs.  Recent changes in the Administration of the Amador District has altered FOCS's energy towards a "do-over"

Support us in signing our petition   https://chng.it/BmhqdGpsRR  and then doing a little work to share this out to your contacts that 1) support actions that you are inspired by or 2) contacts that you think may see value in supporting and using the Camps facilities for their group's outdoor program needs.

Project Progress

Over time, our collaborative efforts have yielded significant progress. The restoration of Camp Silverado has advanced, preserving its natural allure and historical importance. The a testament to your enduring dedication.

Ongoing Challenges and USFS Interaction

Yet, as with any commendable endeavor, challenges endure. Presently, we are engrossed in discussions with the United States Forest Service (USFS), aligning the Camp Silverado restoration project with their guidelines. These conversations are pivotal for the lasting vitality of the camp as an educational hub.

Navigating Obstacles and USFS Engagement

These USFS dialogues have illuminated hurdles deserving collective attention. While acknowledging our project's significance, intricate procedural and regulatory intricacies demand meticulous navigation. We diligently address concerns encompassing land use, environmental impact, and infrastructure maintenance. Your support during this process is indispensable.

Enlistment for Board Roles and Committee Duties

In the pursuit of Camp Silverado's preservation and rejuvenation, we invite devoted members to contemplate assuming fresh leadership roles. The expansion and prosperity of FOCS pivot on the acumen, foresight, and dedication of its board members. If you discern yourself possessing the attributes to steer our cause, expressing interest in board membership is encouraged.

Furthermore, committees offer an avenue for focused contributions. Be it project management, environmental conservation, fundraising, or community engagement, your expertise finds relevance. Collectively, we surmount challenges, further cementing Camp Silverado's standing as a bastion of experiential education.

Final Notions

To conclude, the Camp Silverado restoration project attests to the potency of collective resolve. Every member's steadfast support is acknowledged and cherished. As we surmount current USFS-related challenges, your engagement in potential board positions and committees promises the project's unceasing triumph.

For all BSA Alumni and our new Alumni friends,

Sometimes what we do is workand sometimes it is play.  Actually, for many of us the "work" we voluntarily do is more like fun as we enjoy what we do, and we love this Camp. The added benefit is that in the end we are helping the USFS to eventually serve the public.  To that end, we provide access into Camp for fun and volunteer service. Working volunteers are what we seek, donors we need, and giving you the ability to camp in Camp is a pleasure. Especially while having the support of your family camping with you in Camp. This gives you the opportunity to show them around this Camp that you know and love.

If you think you may be able to lend a hand in Camp during the summer/fall months, then membership in FOCS is advised.  We have Individual Membership (annual $40 or life Membership Levels are available), Family Membership (annual $100 or $1000 for Family Life Membership), Group Membership (Troops, Clubs, Teams prices based on Unit size).  Your donation of dues is the bedrock of our nonprofit’s funding source and assures us with an annual operational budget. Auto renew is available.

If you wish to offer continued support yet you live out of the area or believe that a work party is not something you are able to participate in, then Donations are available (one time or reoccurring) in any amounts that you are comfortable with.   Donations can be earmarked for specific projects or needs.  Donations can also be dedicated in the name of someone near and dear to you, towards targeted projects, or for general purposes in the Camp.

 DONATE HERE

Know that in-kind donations are also sought.  There are professional skills, equipment, and materials needed.  In-kind equivalences towards dues will be calculated for skills brought into Camp and items of value (assets and useable) can be offered their tax deduction value.   Work with us and gain a satisfying solution to your valued participation and needed donations.   We maintain a “wish list” page here:

WISH   LIST

Fans need to be the 'guest' of a current FOCS Member to get in their 4 nights to join.    FOCS Members that bring guests into Camp are responsible for their “in Camp behavior” and adherence to best Camp 'leave no trace' habits.    We do not want to become the Camp police and begin a list of Camp rules.     We will if we need to, but we prefer self-management.

Oh, Remember When

The early morning sun would just peek over the top of Thunder Mountain

and that cool down slope breeze would hit the backs of our knees at morning colors

knowing the day will soon warm up ...  internally wondering if we'll see afternoon thunder showers again.

So, Gather Here

All my Camp Brothers and Sisters

my fellow scouters with our long-ago scout campers, their parents, and siblings

make this the year that you return to the ol' Troop campsite.

Oh, By Coming Back

Under the shadow of Thunder in our great firs again.

Where perhaps you had promised that you would return

Now “a promise made is a debt unpaid”, as the story of the "Cremation of Sam McGee" goes.

So, Join the Round-Up finding our Family

Around our Campfire and under these stars again ...  favor us with your stories,

Share this Camp that has touched your soul and introduce us to your other family.

Come reclaim your spot under the trees and on the granite for our history and towards your legacy

Oh, Come and Camp Here Again

In the honor of the Swegedaigea Lodge and unto our Brotherhood

Give back to the Camp that helped shape you into the person you are today

All in the name of Wimachtendienk Wingolauchsik Witahemui
